The Pet Terramation Process

Learn More About Pet Terramation

TerraPets by Return Home gently transforms your pet’s remains into nutrient-rich soil using only alfalfa, straw, and sawdust. This process mirrors what happens in nature, but in a controlled setting, allowing you to receive your pet’s life-giving compost for you to use however you see fit.

Step 1

Laying In Ceremony

Our complimentary laying in service gives you the opportunity to spend time with your pet at our facility and be involved in placing them in their Terramation vessel.

Step 2

Terramation

Oxygen flows through the vessel which stimulates microbes in their body. These microbes rapidly transform their body into soil in just 30 days.

Step 3

Resting

The soil is screened for anything inorganic and is placed back into their cube to rest and cool for the next 30 days.

Step 4

Life Grows On

Beautiful life-giving compost from the transfer of vitality from your pet is ready to be returned home to you.

FAQs

Explore Our Frequently Asked Questions

What is TerraPets, and how does it differ from traditional pet funeral services?

TerraPets is the United States’ only pet Terramation facility, offering a unique and eco-friendly alternative to traditional pet aftercare. Terramation, also known as natural organic reduction, is a process that transforms your beloved pet’s remains into nutrient-rich soil. This method is not only environmentally sustainable but also provides a meaningful way to honor your pet. The resulting soil can be used to nurture plants or trees, creating a living memorial that celebrates your pet’s life in a natural and enduring way. Our service focuses on providing comfort and significance during this difficult time, helping pet owners to remember their pets in a way that contributes positively to the environment.

How does Terramation work?

Terramation uses Alfalfa, straw, and sawdust in a controlled environment to stimulate the microbes that already exist in each of us with moisture and oxygen to naturally decompose the body.

How long does it take?

Our process completely transforms your pet in 30-40 days.

Is the Terramation process at TerraPets individual for each pet?

Yes, at TerraPets, we understand the importance of individualized care and attention for each pet that comes into our facility. Our terramation process is conducted individually for each pet, ensuring that the remains you receive are solely those of your beloved animal companion. This approach allows us to provide a personal and respectful service, giving you peace of mind that the nutrient-rich soil you receive is a unique tribute to your pet’s life.

How Does TerraPets Ensure the Ethical Treatment of My Pet’s Remains?

  1. Staffed by Pet Lovers and Owners: Our team consists of passionate pet lovers and owners, just like you. We understand the profound bond between pets and their families, which is why we approach every aspect of our service with empathy and care.
  2. Metal Tag Numbering System: To ensure the integrity of the process and your peace of mind, we utilize a strict metal tag numbering system. Each pet is assigned a unique metal tag that remains with them throughout the entire terramation process. This system guarantees that the nutrient-rich soil you receive is exclusively from your beloved pet.
  3. Respectful Handling: From the moment your pet arrives at our facility, they are handled with the utmost respect and care. We treat every pet as if they were our own, ensuring a dignified and compassionate process.
